IMPORTANT NEWS - 3rd December 2002
Today I have added the results of a complete search of the online 1901 Census. You will find them (all 63 of them) listed by household. I also have a list from the 1881 census which will go onto the site within the next few days.

Today is an important day. Besides being my birthday, it′s the day that I completed trials with a new host which offers much faster download speeds. Trials were run using the TREE pages, which take a considerable time to download using the existing server. Typical results gave an improvement of download speed from ONE MINUTE to just EIGHTEEN SECONDS at 56k transfer rates! To start with I will place the Trees on the new server (later today). So if you access one you will notice that the speed of download is far faster than before. The observant among you will also notice that the address on your browser no longer says www.vango.info/ but www.lionhost.co.uk/vango/. That′s because I am putting the Trees into another domain for the time being. Eventually, the whole site will be migrated to the new server and the www.vango.info address will return. Please let me know if the Trees are improved on your system.
I recently came across someone viewing this page in their native language, using the Google translation site. If you don't believe me try hitting one of these links: Spanish, French, German, Portuguese or Italian. They will open up in a new window, so don't forget to close it when you've finished viewing :~)

A BIG THANK YOU to Martyn Briggs, Pat Athienitou and Shiela Vango for your emails. I will be adding the information you've supplied to the Family Tree pages in the next few days.
NEWS - 14th May 2002
I've just completed the first draft of an essay on the history of the Huguenots. It started when I decided to look up information simply because I knew very little about who they were, although most of us seem to agree that the Vango family were originally Huguenot silk weavers. But from looking up a little information I became interested in just what our ancestors might have experienced under the Catholic persecutions of the 16th and 17th Centuries. The result, two months later, is the essay which I've now posted up under Resources>East End>Historic Background.
At the moment it's mainly historical facts, but I'll be adding to the essay over the coming weeks as I find out more about what it was like for them. I'm also planning an essay on the history of the East End of London from 1700 to 1900, once I have enough information.
STOP THE PRESSES - 28th April 2002
Amazing News - Jaqui George couldn't remember the names of all of her grandfather's siblings, but knew there were quite a few. Last night, while going through some of my father's papers, I came across a full list of them that she had sent my father in back in 1991. I added them to her Tree and suddenly I had a flash of recognition. They were the same names as the siblings of William John Vango - Jason Vango's great grandfather. So now we can link Jaqui's family with that of Jason, Martin and David, Albert Vango's Scottish Tree and my own family. This is a fantastic leap forward in assembling the the whole picture and upholds my belief that ALL Vango's are related!
Now my only problem is how to display this mega-Tree in an attractive, comprehensive but compact form!!!!!

New Site-Navigation System - After realising that this site was difficult to navigate I started work a week ago to improve things. I've tried to devise a system that allows you to move from any page to any other page on the site. I hope you find this a useful improvement. There are a couple of teething problems on one or two pages, but they'll be sorted within 24 hours. Note that one or two of the buttons aren't functional yet. That's because the pages they link to are under reconstruction. Please let me know if you have any problems using the menu or what you think of it.
LATEST rays of sunshine .... After a flurry of emails and phone calls I've added a new tree to the site, courtesy of Jaqui George (nee Vango) and her daughter, Maria, in Kent. It seems that her great-grand-uncle was known as the "Banana King" - which sounds like my own great-grandfather, William Vango. Also, a communication from Clare Tompkins, daughter of Loraine Vango, which should yield another Tree and help towards putting the jigsaw together.
I have received 29 birth, marriage and death certificates from Barry Vango, mainly from the 19th century. I can't thank Barry enough for making the fruit of his hard work available to me and you can now find full details of the certificates on the website, under Resources.
I really hope that this site will be a catalyst for all those Vango's out there who wanted to know where they fitted in to the family tree. I would really appreciate it if you would contact me with your memories, recollections, information or anything about your own branch of the tree.
